I have a d2 td5 and I was just wondering if a tdci 6 speed box would fit? Has anybody done this or know if this could be done?

why? do you want to change gear more often.

Top gear is as near as damn it the same :)

It's smoother and keeps the revs in the power range. You have five normal gears and one for cruising, sure the top gear isn't to far apart but you could (if you want) up the gearing more with other components.
I for one love 6 speed gearboxes and would love one on my disco, I am currently following a forum: Cummins ISB 5.9 24 valve into a landrover and this guy made an adapter from a disco 3 6 speed manual to an lt230 transfer box, then all I would need is an adapter to the td5 and change the prop lengths (probably) and gear linkage.

For what is involved, it's a lot of work for nothing.

A 5.9 Cummins torque curve is so flat and so strong that you could probably use a 3-speed quite happily, absolute waste of time fitting a 6-speed.

5 speeds with the TD5 should be fine, the Discovery 2 is no racing machine, and even when towing it is a pretty good match for the engine.

A V8 is the way to go....
