Strange Alive are now saying the MAF should be in place & work perfectly fine. Especially if they used to sell a part to bypass the MAF. Do you know if anywhere else sells an uprated MAF or bypass kit?..
My MAF is unplugged currently, Alive said they’ll test it when they do a remap.
Did give Empire a ring & email but haven’t heard back yet. Did have a look for the turbo you said about but it’s not listed online, only the remaps.
Yeah good thinking, I best try a requote to see how much the insurance wants to pull my pants down over the mods... said I was fitting a tracker & they said it won’t reduce the price at all!? Not sure if a better alarm system might bring it down though...

Uprated MAFs no longer exist. "Bypass kit" is having it deleted within the ECU.

Alive will test it, if it works fine then it works and no need. Mine didnt work (nor did a new genuine unit) so deleted!

Gareth at Empire is pretty good, lovely guy as well. He will get back to you. Turbos arnt listed as they are quite new

Argh right, my limited knowledge didn’t know that ha!
Cheers for that! Any idea what they charge roughly for the turbos? Alive tubings is something like £1400 I think, bit pricey..

Ah wow, that’s less than half the price of Alive then!!:eek:
No wonder they can afford such good customer service!

Cant say im a fan of Storm. Depending on whò you are theyve been known to load generic maps that just up the fueling. Nothing more.

Td5inside while very good are a nightmare to get hold of in the even of an issue.

Empire tuning is worth a call too.

Dynachip did mine, he charges around £250 and comes out to you. He used to get very good reviews but nobody’s been recommending him lately.
I’m sure he is still doing it.

Do you need a hybrid turbo?

Mine responded well to a £250 remap and it’s got all the performance that l need, it is a Defender after all and not a Golf GTi.

Depends. For what I do its a massive help, being able to pick up full boost from a near standstill (sandy hill climb for example) is a massive help.

I don’t know if I’m definitely having it, just wanted to get a some quotes to see if it was worth having it done the same time as a remap... thought I’d just post the quote.
Read a lot of good stuff about this Gareth, wish he wasn’t over a 4 hour drive away though! Cheers

He can do remote maps, also often does road trips around the UK, worth sending a message to find out.

Yeah he said he travels UK, but no other info and hasn’t come back yet.
Does he just travel to locations for a day or something?
Don’t you need a Nanocom to remote map?

For a reasonable upgrade, talk to JE engineering. They do a stage 2 kit which is a bigger intercooler along with a remap. As you have a bigger intercooler already, they'll deduct that from the cost. Decent boost in power and torque without breaking the bank. They do postal tunes for most where you send them the ECU and it comes back remapped.

EGR is only used at part load so no real gain to be had by removing it. And it's an MOT failure now.

Gareth is an ex JE employee. So your JE map is likely done by him!

Yes you will need a Nanocom or access to one for a remote map.

Know if BAS remaps are anygood, they came back & said they’ll do it go post & return it same day. Cheers

Ah OK if it cures the sub 1500 rpm “death” or slow pickup when accelerating then l take back all l said.

Yeah exactly my thought, surely sending it off just gives you a standard upgrade but not the best possible. They all seem to claim completely different performance outcomes from a remap though... Empire claim upto the 197bhp mark with just a stage 2 standard map, others claim you need atleast a turbo to get anywhere near that figure...
Yeah everyone I spoke to claim the turbo upgrade gives a far better power bandwidth, especially from the lower end..

I wonder, did you hear that on Facebook by any chance? o_O

Care to backup your statement about Storm Tuning (my company) with something factual? I can assure you your statement is 100% incorrect.

None of our maps are generic, and over my dead body do they just "up the fuelling" - Ironically that was the very reason I first looked at tuning my own TD5 after having a map from another tuner that did exactly that!
