Hi anyone experienced the top hose bleed screw thread dropping out into the pipe and going somewhere in the water system? Checked radiator and thermostat no sign of it! Not sure if it was brass or plastic, All I know is the thread is no longer there!
Any advice please?
 
I've not had that, but I did have the top of the plastic bleed screw fracture just under the head, so the coolant sprayed out under pressure. Managed to get the rest of it out and replaced it with a metal one.
Is it the original style moulded pipe, or the rubber pipe and plastic junction version? I have the former on the car, and the latter as a spare, so I can check either - if I remember....
 
Hi its the original moulded hose, I think the helicoil thats dropped off was plastic, had radiator off and thermostat no sign of it, any ideas? What type of hose you got on yours?
 
How do you get more advice/comments on here? Always used to be so good when I had my Defender years back!!

I had this happen too. I did find the bit, I think it was a thread in a fibre moulding, shaped to the inside of the hose. I think I found it in the hose itself, not completely certain, but I was probably lucky. I tried many ways of refitting it, but nothing worked, so I had to get a new hose.

Really depends on who's reading and when.
The hose on the car is a LR moulded one, but can't check at the mo as the missus is out and about in it. I think it was plastic though. The one in the spare, non-genuine hose is steel probably zinc plated.

Did you find the insert that had dropped out of the bleed valve ?

Yes, I remember finding everything that had gone missing. It's just that it was no longer usable. I tried putting it back, not an easy job, but it didn't seal the hose. I think the "insert" must be moulded into the hose somehow. It was the original hose, so I wasn't too worried it had failed after about 15 years.

From what I remember, the threaded part was part of a "fibre" piece, which was shaped to fit the inside of the hose. I assumed this was moulded into the hose and due to age, it had fallen apart. The bleed screw screwed into this part. This is all I remember, I didn't take that much notice when it was obvious a repair wasn't possible.
 
I am going to get a small camera on a lead with an led on to see if I can see where this insert is before I run my motor and fill it with antifreeze
