My 2000 td5 90 has a problem with it surging under hard acceleration and under load. it is also does it at about 60 mph in 5th. I changed the fuel pump in the tank and it was fine for 3 miles then did the smae again. i since learned you could strip and clen them so i stripped and cleaned my old on cleaned the tank out and fitted the old pump with a new seal and returned the new one. it again was fine for maybe 4 or 5 miles then started again. my feeling is that it is when it gets warm more so. also when it starts to surg if you back off the throttle slightly it stops. No smoke, No lumpy running and otherwise fine. Got me round the bend. Any ideas welcome.

been doing a lot of research and think it is overboosting due to a wastegate fault causing it to stay shut then the ecu backs the fueling off to protect the engine.

yes you are correct overboost is the problem could be any part wastgate, hoses ,acuator etc

Hi, Mine had a problem with cutting out when doing 75/80mph engine would chuck out white smoke. Checked wastgate, changed Maf sensor. turned out to be a collapsed turbo hose. Good Luck
