Hi All, I am having problems starting my 2003 TD5 Defender. It wont start hot or cold unless I use cold start in the air intake. Runs fine when started. Been out on a 10 mile run got home turned it off tried to restart it instantly and no good. Sprayed cold start and started fine. I have replaced the fuel pump and the injector seal but still have the same problem.

Any ideas please.

is the fuel pump noisey (whining or gurgling).

Have you purged the fuel lines of air usig the purge process?

Have you purged the injectors of air using the injector purge process?

Hi Fuel pump sounds fine. Runs for about 30 secs and then stops on p 2 so think that is ok. I have purged pump but not injectors. How do I do that? Also dont think it is plugs as it doesn't start when warm.

Got it sorted. A bit strange but it turned out to be a fault on the starter motor. It was stopping the fuel solenoid from opening. Changed stater and starts first turn.

Glad its sorted but the TD5 dont have a fuel solenoid. Cant think what the starter would have affected other than it was drawing too much current and the ECU was not getting full voltage. I'd check and clean the ECU main earth point while you're in the mood.
