I have a 110 TD5 2002/02 running standard engine/gearbox. On the way to work my speedo shot up from 40 to 70 ish and then dropped down to 20 a couple of times and now just sits at 0 not moving at all. I have had a good look around t'interwebs and have found the fixes for a mechanical speedo (cable broken) but not much on the TD5. I think it may have something to do with the transducer but didn't see much underneath the car to be honest. Has anyone had any experience of this problem and can tell me their fix or any suggestions.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Just thought that I would post this fix on the forum as it has saved me the full price of Defender Td5 speedo transducer.
My situation was the usual, speedo needle started bouncing all over the dial and sometimes would bounce even when stationary. The weirdest thing was the odometer would click over as well, quite disconcerting when your travelling at aroung 50 mph, the needle is jumping all over up to 90 mph in some cases and you can see the tenths of a mile clicking over as if you are actually doing 90 mph.
Anyway it eventually died so I looked at replacing the transducer. First I thought I would strip it out and see if it could be fixed, anyway a complete pig to get out with the hand brake drum and cable in the way and the mounting bolt on the top side, who the hell designed this ?
It turned out after stripping it down, examining it, regreasing it and refitting it that it was still kaput.
So time to source a new one, a genune LR Tx from a respected dealer £105.98, or a genuine ?? LR Tx from ebay £32.00, now here's the thing due to design of the Tx it is in two parts, the body which contains the sensor and the rotating magnet on a plastic shaft and a mounting device. In the case of the Td5 Defender the mounting device is a small alloy plate secured to the gearbox using a 6mm bolt, this mounting plate can be easily, but carefully unclipped from the main body.
No here's the good bit, I ordered a Tx for a Freelander for the tidy sum of £11.59, popped off the plastic nut mounting device, removed the internal magnet on its plastic shaft, replaced the original shaft into the new body, clipped the alloy mounting plate back on and secured it with a tie wrap.
I then bolted it back into place, job sorted and good as new with the speedo now behaving itself again.
To be honest, buying the Tx off ebay would have only been £20 more, however buying the Tx from the dealer would have been £90 more expensive, but I was intrigued as to whether it would work or not, so I am happy with my saving and resourcefullness.
Hope this helps some of you out there.
