Hi everyone, I have just bought a discovery 2. The problem I’m having with it is if you leave it ticking over for a while (10 mins or more) then rev the engine or drive off it will smoke quite a lot. The smoke doesn’t last long (less than a min) then clears. The smoke stinks of burning oil and it is losing oil. It starts on the button in the morning without using the heater plugs and doesn’t smoke (sounds a bit lumpy for the first ten seconds or so). Drives great, pulls well and doesn’t seem to smoke much unless you leave it ticking over for a while. Hoping it’s not the rings. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
James

Thanks for the replys. How do you do a compession test on them with the injectors being in the head and only 4 heater plugs. If it was the valve stem seals would it not smoke like a pig in the morning.
Thanks

I have no idea-maybe I need fault codes reading but I don’t know anywhere round here that does Landy diagnostics apart from the main stealer

if u check the compression on cylinders 1 to 4 will give you an idea...cos if there is low then u have a problem anyway

ain't there an electronic type of compression test that can be performed through the ecu using diagnotic equipment?

yes there is ... but u have to find a garage equipped with the special tool(an electronic engine analyzer)... the analyzer 'shorts' one cylinder at a time with the engine running and calculates the rpm drop. Once all cylinders are measured, a reading is given that will show which cylinders are working the hardest (have the most compression) and which are working the least (have the least compression)... u can make an idea from the live cylinder roughness readings aswell(which is doable with nanocom or hawkeye)

wow are you realy in Transylvania? are landys popular over in Transylvania. Thanks for the reply.
