Hello gents, got an issue with my td5 disco.

There's a knocking noise/feeling coming from the rear undercarriage/axle when the vehicle is subject to side to side force, such as driving on rough tracks etc. Having had susp. bushes go on previous landys, it is almost the exact same noise but after checking I don't think that's the issue. On rocking the body from side to side whilst stationary (no sniggering..!), it's possible to see the rear wheels judder slightly in conjunction with the knocking noise. This has led me to thinking something is knocking from side to side inside the rear axle. Would anybody be able to shed some light on this problem or is this perhaps a garage job?

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance.

Could also be your watts linkage fractured, mine was knocking put it down to bushes, got them, was driving it and the linkage broke it had been broken on one side for a while hence the knocking noise, get it checked straight away

That's the exact noise. I'll check it in the morning cos it's blowing a hooly outside just now! Cheers gents.

Edit: Impatience has gotten the better of me..lot's of horizontal play in the bottom joint by the diff, looks like that's the problem. Thanks again

Watts linkage. Changed mine last month. Make sutr you get lr parts not poly as they will wear out in several months.

True fact! The genuine LR parts are actually more like a ball/rose joint with rubber gaiters on it. It allows the linkage to move in more than one axis (which it obviously needs to do, or else why would LR not use a straight poly bush?).

Quite pricey - IIRC £41 for the one joint I replaced, but I did buy it from my local main dealer ;)
