For those facing the same predicament - how to dismantle the powersteer pump on D2, I can confirm that the shaft is simply pressed out. The fitting is not tight and I imagine a suitable vice could be used (in my case I used a 20T press which didnt even register effort on the gauge.) Think through what you are doing and ensure to support the underside of the housing so the shaft can be pushed out. You wont need to press the shaft too far, just enough to clear the rear pulley.
My advice - TAKE PHOTO's of the internals as you disassemble! its not complicated, but, the 'pin' (you will know it when you see it) can be installed in two positions, only ONE of those positions will work for your car's configuration.
If you have been searching the web you may have come across threads: I have changed my PS pump and now there is no assistance! This is the symptom of wrong pin location (dont ask how I know...)
The youtube clip earlier in this thread is very good, BUT!!!! the pin location (at around the 16min mark) is INCORRECT for my setup ('02 D2 with ACE), I needed to move the pin and associated plates to the alternative position). Also, if you buy a cheap PS pump online and find there is no power assistance I can almost guarantee the internal pin is incorrectly located for your car, you will need to open up the pump and simply relocate the pin and plates to the alternate location (also dont ask how I know...)
Repair kit installed, ALL seals replaced (front and rear) and shaft bearing. No leaks for the past three months,,,
good luck.
