Hi all having problems with my 2000 td5 its done 180,000miles i had a lot of back pressure in the header tank so i rang dealers they told me common fault thermostat sticking so i have replaced it and the header tank cap filled with water to check for leaks none so replaced water with anti freeze now i have excessive steam coming out of exhaust whilst on tickover and losing water but no leaks rang a few mechanics all say hg gone not a problem but they said to scrap the car as head will be cracked and block will be warped help i dont want to scrap car its a work horse for me any advice please

Best advice is introduce yourself first, then put this in the right section, theres lots of help available on here but this isn't the right way of going about getting it.

Commas and full stops are free and readily available on your keyboard, using them makes your posts much clearer...............

Anyway, why just write the car off because a mechanic speculates the head and or block may be cracked or warped? Get the head off and have a look, then examine the options based on what you find........................

Check the radiator too, they leak on TD5s quite often.

Good test for the HG is the make take it for a good spin down a fast road then check the top pipe with the bleed value for air. If you'd topped up with water and bled when cold it should still be ok, if the HG is duff you'll probably have air in that top pipe.

It has plastic dowel pins, head could of shifted. If you do a HG replace the dowel pins with steel one's or could be a porous head, change was in 2002 model

thankyou thor1950 i have orderrd new gasket set and new bolts waterpump and they told me it has 2 dowlls so i have them comin aswel thankyou
