Yes is getting cheaper relatively again and when they ban diesels there could be another drive to promote lpg. It is a lot of money to fit lpg just now tho.

Iv a complete plug n play kit sitting in the shed I bought from a known good eBay seller of all things range rover removed from a working motor he was breaking. Bargain price too

Well I would be very very careful cos insurance company may want to see the pressure test certificate for your tank and certificate of competent installation etc

Independent inspections can be arranged via an LPGA approved installer of a DIY installation.

The installation must comply with the LPG Code of Practice part 11 (from memory), I have a copy somewhere.

Driven both, now own a P38 and love it to bits. I've driven to Czech republic and back in it twice now and it's a pleasure to drive, even more so now I've fixed the cruise control.

My tuppence worth?

My car had a new engine after it blew up (before I got it) and I blame LPG, so I have an engine with less than 30k miles on it... However, LPG aside, I adore my car.

I drive various 4x4's and love the Defender, but compared with the Defender, my P38 is a Lamborgini.

Just last night, I put my foot down and obliterated an idiot (albeit in a Clio) who thought I was an easy target to overtake in the 50 zone. When I reached the NSL's I wasted him. Anyway,my point being, cruising is lazy and simple, but demand power and it's there in spades. Pushing the SPORT button of course means dropping down a gear or two is a quicker affair.

Then there is the comfort and luxury that doesn't smother you, but gently cossets you and holds you in place.

Sure there are idiosyncrasies, but then you get that with any car. The point being this car is fan bloody tastic when it is on song.

Mine is just the dawgs danglies in my humble... I love it as a car and as work horse, but as a work of art it is simply stunning :)

Lets be honest, they're all a bit of a lottery as we're talking about very old cars now.

Disco TD5- getting difficult to find one that isn't terminally rusty underneath; the last few I viewed looked perfect on top but were getting very weak in the chassis o_O Also, I'm not convinced the TD5 is overly reliable, fuel pumps, fuel leaks, injector washers, injector looms, head problems, oil pump bolts coming loose etc etc.

P38 Diesel - feels slow unless chipped, questionable reliability of the BMW engine, some have major issues, some don't. Body and chassis VERY good at holding back rust. Usual P38 electrical problems.. there's a lot of very thin, brittle, corroding wires under your arse :D

P38 V8 - as above but with one major caveat. The V8 engine can slip its liners and grind to a halt in a cloud of steam. Sounds unlikely I know, but this is a serious problem/ inherent flaw and will easily write-off the nicest example unless you're happy to have a £4k rebuild done.

Sounds a bit gloomy (sorry), but the reality is, nothing will be as simple and reliable as a 200 or 300TDi. Having said that, if a P38 4.6 HSE, with LPG and a Turner Engineering rebuild came my way, I wouldn't be able to resist :cool::)

Push the boat out and get a cheap L322 TD6
Engines are brilliant, allot easier to maintain than a P38.
Car will last you longer too.
