Hello guys,

I am the proud owner of a Discovery MKII TD5 that I purchased more than 2years ago.
Since I own it, I am trying hard to maintain it and upgrading it to travel to the dunes of South Morocco.

Few months ago, I had an exhaust manifold leak due to broken struds. I replaced them, fitted a new gasket and inspected the turbo that seemed to be working fine. However I am having a strange noise, between rattling and squeelling. By checking the junction between the manifold and the engine head, there is a very small leak...
At iddle, the engine is stable and making the noise of a normal TD5, HOWEVER as soon as I floor slight the gas pedal, the engine makes noise from 1,500 to 3,000RPM and beyond.

I am afraid of this noise that I try to solve since few weeks now. I readjusted the injectors today, changed the serpentine belt but still end up with the same noise.

I would like to know if anyone of you already got this noise or if anyone could suggest the issue.

Cheers

Here's a video I took where you can hear the noise at 10 and 18sec while I rev the engine up.

Thank you guys

if you replaced the manifold gasket without having the manifold skimmed, you probably have the same issue. the studs snap because the manifold has warped.

Alright I see, thanks for your advise. I am annoyed that I have to dismount the manifold and turbo but seems I have no other choice...
Does the manifold moves that much in its life?

It can warp which causes leaks.
Apparently if you get the manifold skimmed it doesn’t warp again.
