Hi all I'm running a Disco2 53 plate td5 auto. What sort of MPG should I get ? It's used every day 24 mile round trip county lanes and then A roads avg 40/50mph. At the moment I'm putting in £50 (40 litres) and doing about 185 miles. Would using the higher grade diesel be better , has anyone used an injectors cleaner ? did it help
Thanks

Bout 20mpg-ish not ideal but the autos are worse on fuel than manuals. My 110 returns around 25mpg average but its highly tuned and overfueling a tad.

My old mildly tuned but heavy 90 returned 28mpg average and 30+ on the mway.

Should do a little better than 20mpg, could run some injector cleaner but wont make a huge difference. Still got the EGR fitted? As that can get stuck closed and cause lack of air, or the inlet could be full of gunk.

My D2 auto 99 my averages about 29/30 on a decent run 20 miles and upwards,Going about 60/65On a 270odd mile fast run but with some heavy traffic in the mix the other day it Did 29I never put supermarket crap in because if I do it looses 3mpg all round . I give it a dose of Redex cleaner every time I fill up

I don't use supermarket fuel either, going to give it a good service some injector cleaner and go from there thanks

No probs mate I think they do vary quite a lot depending on if tuned ,de egr d etc mine is bog standard never been messed with

Just be aware that high consumptions mean hard working engine or overfuelling for some reason, and that means higher engine temps and higher EGT, big tyres are the most common cause for that ... the result is premature engine failure,
other reasons:
- sticking calipers or handbrake which puts load on the engine as well
- stuck viscous fan
- erratic MAF input
- low reading coolant temp sensor

Disco 2
EGR gone
Slightly bigger tyres

90% of the time its loaded to the roof with tools and I do a varied mix of motorway, twisty roads and in town

26mpg calculated over 12 tanks of fuel

Vehicle now serviced going to put some injector cleaner in on the next fill up and see how we go over the next month.

I get/got about 25mpg on mountain roads and about 35mpg on motorways as Ive changed the transfer box to 1:2 ratio. You loose a bit of performance in the countryside but get much better fuel economy on fast roads. Still ok towing and offroad as first two gears are still about the same
