Hi
Yesterday after stopping in a drive way my lights decided to stop working. No side or main but flash worked. After an hour in the rain I ran a wire from the battery to the switch to be able to drive home (on side lights), where I spent another hour looking at them.
This morning I took it to a landy dealer who fitted a dip relay and it still didn't work. He gave up and booked it in to another dealer! I came home to empty it out before I took it to them and all the lights started working!

I recon it must be water and it has dried out while driving but not sure where to look.
Anyone got any ideas or a wiring diagram?

I had loads of random light problems with my 300tdi when I first got it.. Basically all the internals to the lights themselves were corroded and fecked, and a couple of them would fill with water when it rained, and blew the fuse when I used that light.

I bought a set of 8 (all the round ones) from ebay for about £25, and replaced the fog, reverse and numberplate light to. No problems since at all. Well worth the investment.

If you replace them, dont forget there's a small hole in the casing of each light. This must face downward, so any water will drain out the bottom.

Thanks for the reply's. I should have said I have replaced the switch already and since reading your reply's I have found one head light to be smoky inside. The bulb is fine but maybe water got in a shorted it out!

If anyone has a wiring diagram it would be very helpful.

I have had the same problem where the side and dipped headlights only work intermittently. I have looked for the usual problem in the light switch but all looks fine. When the lights are working I can hear a relay in the dash clicking. When not working this relay is quiet. Took off instument panel and found a pink relay that I think might be the one but not certain. I have also read that the switch from low to high beam on the indicator stalk could be at fault. I have ordered new stalk and switch just to be sure. Any other ideas would be helpful!

The pink relay is the dim dip relay so a possibility ;)

The switch itself does seem to overload easily

Now get yourself over to the introduce yourself section before someone says :hijacked: oooops too late :D :D

If swapping for known units doesn't work and or you have extra lighting fitted....

TD5's and 300tdi's have a wonderful electrical system of "header joints" if you have any extra lighting that has not been wired up to it's own live, the header joint behind the dash will start to melt.....

Not a particularly difficult job just time consuming :(
