Hi All,

My '99 TD5 Manual is dripping a bit of what I belive to be G/Box oil - all onto the lovely clean driveway! Not massive amounts but a few drips, what's the common causes for this?

Thanks.

Rob

The general consensus is the fault lies with parking a landrover on a gravel drive.
Others say "they all do that".
Personally i think it is because the gearbox is leaking oil.

Land Rover's don't leak, they mark their territory . "what's the common causes for this?"

Answer is: a worn oil seal

I had the same problem last week, it turned out not to be a gear box leak at all, but a diesel leak from the fuel preasure regulator. It drips onto the right hand side of the gear box, runs down the side and looks just like a gear box leak. have you had a look underneath? is it only wet down the drivers side of the box? if so its more likely to be diesel.

Deffinitely Oil as aposed to Derv, It seems to be dripping from what I assume is the draining plug for the G/Box oil...Hmm Possibly the washer/bolt then

Just had the same problem with mine. Turns out the input shaft seal in the gearbox has gone. Gearbox out so major job and pain in the ass. Change the clutch and transfer box seal while its out if its over 100000 miles.

Drain the the gearbox, get a new copper washer, tape the plug with a far bit of ptfe tape and put it back in.

Refill the gearbox via the level/fill up the drivers side of the gearbox with 2.3ltrs of EP 80-90 to GL5.
