Drove from south London to Tamworth in my old 300 with nothing at all for a fan belt. Found that the airflow thro the radiator was enough to spin the fan and keep it cool. Drove up the M1 on side lights as it was just getting dusk. Even started the next morning with no ill effects.
Don't tell anyone but my 300tdi has no engine driven fan. I took it off and replaced it with an electric fan which I only switch on when my temperature gauge tells me I need to. I have NEVER needed to put it on in the UK. I only needed to switch it on twice in the southwest of France over a period of about 7 years. Makes you wonder why they ever bothered to fit them!

Do you still use the std fan belt ?

Cheers

I'm still trying to figure out what's the connection between a 300tdi fan and a Td5 immobiliser
Hi Sierrafery, don't know if you read the whole thread. It was just some of us having a moan about the over-electrification of modern vehicles. Discussing the ways in which we got ourselves home when an electrical fault was caused by a broken fan belt and how you could use an old stocking to drive the water pump on an old car, no power-steering then, and the engine, petrol obviously, could be fired by the juice left in the battery for quite a distance. Which brought us from fan-belts to fans hence the 300tdi link. So that is how you get from a TD5 immobiliser to a 300tdi fan. Now do you want me to tell you why Fire Engines are painted red? It is a similar chain.

I really respect your enthusiasm m8 ... but what ever i do i am very frustrated by those who trunkated this thread which was about Td5 immobiliser(as the title) with sme completeley unrelateded postings. How comes a 300 tdi belt thing in this thread will be a mystery for me untill the end. ... i\ll rest my case now:confused:

Dunno why you say the thread was truncated. The problem was solved by the guy making better contact at the battery terminals. The rest of the thread was simply back and forth chit-chat about similar stupid problems to do with other stuff but also to do with electricals. Perhaps you feel we should all shut up once a thread has come to a conclusion in that the problem has been solved. You may be right, perhaps we should move to start other types of threads to do with humour and reminiscences, maybe under "anything goes". Anyway, "truncated" meaning "cut short" is not the appropriate word to use as a/ the problem posed was solved and mentioned, b/ if anything the thread was then elongated or enlarged upon by the banter between members! Not just me either! I now rest my case!! Cheers!

Hi Sierrafery, don't know if you read the whole thread.
I think i've read it as long as in my reply nr #12 Td5 immobiliser i gave a good hint which eventually became the cure.... i highlighted the old text with red now so i have the feeling that you didnt read the whole thread m8 ..... even though i'm still stumped what a 300tdi belt has to do with a td5 immobiliser

Surprised not to have read you yet in the thread "Brexit looking bleak", (Anything goes) since I get the feeling you live in the EU. Now there is a thread I doubt anyone will now join and read from the beginning as it is about 1400 pages long! I have read it from the beginning and whenever I jump in to see what is going on I go back to where I last read to. Only sensible as I am contributing quite a bit due to special interests and knowledge. Would love to read your opinions on it all. Will now shut up as I am WAY off topic.
