Seems a common one, but I'm in a real state here.. many of the symptoms/fixes just don't work on my heap..
(Short) story so far:
key fob failed a few times, fixed by new battery, had a plug in, found a dodgy earth on BCM, 2 days later it wouldn't respond to key fob.. towed home, got EKA from Stratstone LR, tried EKA, wouldn't go into accepting EKA mode, tried re-sync key, removed and cleaned fuseboard/IDM no change, tried EKA again, not trying.. propper p*55ed off, have petrol and insurance details on standby.. please help!

Bought a td5 cheap, it had failed air suspension, had been used off road, and the dashboard was in xmas mode..
spent a lot of time going through it.. replaced rear callipers, new battery, coil springs, etc.. has been running fine and slowly getting there until one morning it wouldn't let me in.. fob was lighting up, but it just wouldn't play.. had a brew, came back out, and it worked fine...
did it again, changed the fob battery and all was well..
had noticed a couple of times the starter was slightly slow to respond, i just assumed this was down to me turning the key before the electrics had settled (me in a rush) - maybe half a second or so, may be unrelated, and probably done it 2 or 3 times in the 3 months I've had it, but best to mention
All was well for a couple of weeks, then outside my mates house it started acting up, not responding to the key again... eventually got it by sneaking up on it through his letterbox sniper style! .. thought it must be a duff battery (79p from a back street motor shop!) got a new battery, but didn't fit it as it had been fine since.. when it next did it, i fitted a new battery and all was well, but not convinced it was the battery i had it plugged in.
A few settings were changed, and an earth on the BCM was fixed, all seemed well.. a reputable local independent LR mechanic, dealt with and exited the programming fine.. also cleared the 3 amigos, which had popped up after the heavy rain and floods!
so got it back seemingly all fixed.. until Tuesday.. got to work, wouldn't lock.. came out a bit later, locked, unlocked, and locked fine..
by 5pm, it was sulking again.. and after going back and forth, changing the battery again, warming the key trying all different angles, swearing at it etc.. no response.
the next day (got a lift in) still nothing... totally dead by 5pm called breakdown, who after checking the battery and seeing it had 12v said.. yeah, its an immobiliser fault... gave it a piggyback home.
Since getting home, i've contacted the local LR guy, he advised removing IDM, drying and cleaning, Sunday morning battery off, IDM out, stupid plastic cover and skin on fingers removed, was already bone dry, so carefully removed some oxidation (minor bit of green/rusty growth, but not a lot - also dead fly!) and reassembled.. put battery on, and ...... just the same
Local LR guy not responding, google is just giving me the stuff i've tried.. its looking like a new reciever/BCM/IDM/key set??
The insurance landed this month, and with the dreaded ******mas I am limited with funds and seriously suspect we may be forced to eat the cat before January is out..
Cant afford to be splashing out, and a trip to local LR dealer is potentially financial suicide.. i know how much they want for just a key!
any thoughts, or things to try will be gratefully received, anyone local who can plug me in and maybe even set it to primitive security would be blessed with as many cups of tea as they can get down their neck..
