Dear all, I have decided to go ahead with the deed. After much thought, I have decided I prefer the look...

I have bought the lights, I have bought the grill and the underlight cover things.. I have done a little research, but cant seem to find a huge amount about how to actually do it. I know the wiring is different.. Is there an adapter for this or how do I re wire it correctly?

Secondly, I know the rear mounting panel has to be cut out to allow the new headlight to fit, but if it is cut out, how do you secure the new headlight?? What does it bolt on to, assuming I cut out the mounting bracket from the old ones?

Sorry to be a pain, I know this was a common question, But all the previous links to diagrams and threads don't seem to connect to anything or now have been removed. I have googled this quite a bit, but to relatively little avail. There is a possibility I am looking in the wrong place. If anyone has done this, some tips would be handy or pics to assist??

I can do you a set of adapter cables which come with wiring diagrams you will also need a couple of relays.
 
just done mine,bought two headlamp conversion kits for wiring,drilled most of spot welds
out round mountain panels,but not on bottom,just cut along with disc cutter as at n/s
water bottle bolted at bottom,just made some brackets for mine to bolt at top and side,as headlights i got on ebay had brackets broken,he did have prove these were not stolen.you do need relays as when you have main beam on, dip needs to be on also,don,t know why.did not need grill tho just cut two bottom brackets off mine to fit.
 
Well.. Just an update!

IT IS DONE!!!!! YEY!!!!!

Took 3 days. Loads of swearing, but it is done... If anyone is going to try this, I would make a couple of suggestions for an easy life..
1. Plan a mounting point for the new headlights. Mine had no mounting points as they were snapped off. You can use the cut out metal to make a new bracket to support the new headlights.
2. Use the push bolts of the old indicators. I drilled a hole into the new lights and glued these in and they snuggly fitted into the old push clip holes for the indicators. This made them fit nicely!
3. I bought a wiring loom off SIMTEK. They were awesome. Expensive, but awesome. I was not good with wiring and the thought of a relay put me into blind panic! If you comfortable with doing the wiring, then great, but if not. SIMTEK provided the whole wiring. Plug into the old sockets, plug into the new ones, attach wire to the battery and bingo!!!! Lights work... A complete loom from them cost me £110 delivered. Expensive I know, but saved me the hassle and panic of getting the wiring wrong.
4. I changed the grill, but if you do, then chop the bottom off the old grill to fill in the space unless your changing the bumper too.

DAMN IT LOOKS GOOD!!!

Well done, like the sound of the wiring, I have had my lights sat in the loft for the last two year's, just haven't had the bottle to do them. "Photo's" :)
 
I will upload the pics tomorrow when I get a mo.. I was going to buy the connectors from you, but I still panicked about doing a relay, so I thought I would play it safe and get the loom.. It really is brilliant. It is a plug in and go job. It has all the female and male connectors to pair with what you already have. All the wiring is exactly the same colour, so you just colour code the plugs and plug it in. Really that simple. The wiring loom is nice and tidy and looks totally professional and is cased in a hard outer to protect the wire. As I said, I will take the pics and upload them tomorrow!

brill. I have been trying to get a plug n play loom for some time, but as I said - the manuf doesnt make mating connectors, so it will be interesting to see how simtek do it :D
 
Hi All, I did the conversion using the plug connectors cut from Rover 75 wiring loom in Breakers yard. Cheap alternative and worked perfectly..
