you may be, but you dont understand why you dont seal between the 2, the reason you dont is any leak is supposed to run out on the floor not into the other box ,next time you have a t/box off look at rear face of gear box you will see a channel for any oil to leak down through exiting in the bottom hole ,silicone is fine but not between boxes 300 tdi on ,gaskets arent used by lr anyhow sealant is ,

not between the two thats bodging ,they are never sealed between from factory and shouldnt be after ,where would oil go if not out and down ,into the other box oil seals only stop oil leaking out not in ,but for any parts removed were you would normally expect a gasket
 
As has been already said, your garage doesnt know what they,re doing.

The transfer box only has 5 seals on it !!. The 2 output shaft seals, the front and rear intermediate shaft " O ring " seals, and the main input shaft seal.

If you,re brutal enough, it is easy to bugger a new input seal when re-fitting the transfer box, but you shouldnt expect this from a LR specialist.

Siliconing the main box and transfer box together, as JM says, is a proper bodge job.

They also sealed up the weep channel on the left hand side, so that if a leak occured you wouldnt see it.

You MUST take your car somewhere else. Taking out a transfer box and fitting new seals, realy is very simple stuff for a garage. It also sound like they have pushed the oil seal collar too far in on the gearbox mainshaft so it is not catching the seal properly.


ALSO, it sounds plainly obvious to me that you have a warped exhaust manifold, ( very common on the TD5 motor ), and NO amount of new studs and tightening is going to rectify this, The manifold needs to be taken off and skimmed flat, then refitted with new studs or better still, a Wurth stud kit.

yea i know about the warped manifold they sent it of for skim an heli coiled every sigle bolt then cpl days later screetching again i went back he came back down 20 min later said it just needed tighting up day later screaming again i went back he said end stud had came out and they were gunna heli coil it again...as i said since then am actually scrared to drive it over 60
 
exactually what i said to guy on my last visit now am goin again monday there is also a multitude of other issues i have had with them but cannot be botherd typing about it..i never new a car could give you so much stress especially when its supossed to go when you pay for repairs not get worse and worse ,i swear its affecting my health now with all the stress

This is exactly the sort of thing that gives landrovers a bad name !!

ITS NOT THE CAR GIVING YOU STRESS, but numptys not being able to simple repair tasks on it !!!.

They must have made a right hash of removing a/the broken manifold studs to warrant putting heliciols in in the first place, at this rate you,ll end up with a scrapped head £££££££ !.
