Hi all

After a bit of help please. I was on my way into work. While driving at 65-70 mph my 2006 td5 90 felt like it was holding back. It felt like a miss fire. When I got to work I plugged it into the scanner. It came up with the normal bs codes all cleared apart from 57 fuel pump drive open load fault. I have an uprated intercooler, remap, air filter and exhaust. I have recently had the injector harness done and maf. Any ideas?

Yes, my TD5 seems t lose the edge of its performance and sounds rough when it is about to run out of diesel so that sounds like poor fuel feed to me. That plus the fault code suggests a pump problem, so that's where I'd start looking. Do you have anything to test the fuel pressure with? Because that's one of the things I'd start looking at. Is the fuel pump noisier than usual? Or, more to the point, does it sound like it's coming on at all?

The fuel pump sounds normal. Just thought. I used Morrisons fuel as my normal garage was shut. I had done 10 miles after filling up then it faulted.

could be bad fuel but this shouldn't throw a code
I use to have a slight surge issue .I then installed a mechanical pressure gauge to the out going of the head this tells me rail pressure AKA cylinder head fuel pressure
when the surge appeared fuel pressure stayed the same never fluctuated turned out to be a few issues ..MAP sensor clogging and the occasional over boost issues due to me upping the boost

if this is the case then more than likely a blockage or a pump not pulling enough amps ..if it was pulling more amps the fuse will blow
unsure how the fault code is read I can only assume the ECU detects voltage and amps drawn from the fuel pump circuit as there are no fuel pressure sensors located on the engine

Thanks
It's had a maf and a boost box is fitted. Due in for a major service next week. I drove 40 just now and it seems fine

If that open load fault code comes back replace the pump relay cos the ECU is monitoring the relay's coil only there is no diagnostic for the pump's power circuit
