hi be very grateful for any help,
I stupidly ran out of diesel, shortage of fuel stations didn’t help.
I ran out on the motorway so pretty dry,
I then had to be recovered even after getting diesel and priming etc,
I have since changed the pump and filter as was sounding noisy,
Tried for hours on a good battery doing the priming sequence,
Just turns over with nothing,
If I use easy start it will eventually start but will hardly Rev until it hits 3k rpm then flys round to redline seems fine,
But anything under 3k it just hardly runs then dies out,,
Been trying for 2 weeks please help before I put a match to it,,

Hi, the pump's HP stage seems dead, old ones used to fail on the HP when they suck up air especially those which are running on low fuel too often cos they are exposed to hotter fuel then

Hi cheers for the reply
It is a new pump but from reading
Other bits new pumps fail ?
Is there anything else may cause same symptoms?
Thanks again lee

Sorry i missed that you changed the pump. Are you sure you didnt mix the pipes at the pump ports when you replaced it? you should check the strainer which is under the FPR to not be clogged and replace the air bleed valve in the filter head

Yes pretty sure marked them up one at a time but will check from the diagrams,,
Where is the strainer pleaseFPR is that front passenger?
I tried blowing Blowing through the bleed valve in filter head was sticking so tried it with and without that,
Cheers for your help

FPR is the fuel presure regulator on the head where the 5'th glow plug should be, there is a strainer beneath it nr 5 in the link, but if you remove the FPR you'll need new gasket nr 4 cos it's not reusable eventually new oring nr 6, scroll to the bottom http://new.lrcat.com/#!/1232/37503/37504/2891 if you click on the blue number you get the part number

’ve just replaced my fuel filter housing because of the exact same problem. It gets worse the longer you leave it. What you’re doing, basically, is having to prime the fuel system on every start.

New fuel filter housing is about£120, but be aware,if you do it yourself, the two 13mm boltsholding the housing on have two 17mm nuts on the other side of the bracket. Other than that, it’s an easy job and cured my problem.

Cheers I suppose that’s my next move
Did it sound exactly the same Hardley run till over 3000 rpm then flew round to red line
Would only start on easy start
And a fair bit at that,
Thanks

No, it just wouldn’t start without excessive cranking. It was getting worse day by day. No matter how many times I purged the system, it wouldn’t start.
Starts with a flick of the key now.

Hi
Still no further....I managed to get strainer out as per your instructions thanks,
It looked a bit of **** n it right at the bottom leaves it all out replaced with new gasket and o ring
Did the purge thing 4 times
Just the same,,
So thought with there been **** in there I’d try replace the FPR completely,
Got a new one and another gasket o ring,,
Changed it all did the prime thing at least 8 times,,just the same turns over and quick battery’s fully charged,
Just nothing not even a slight cough
Give it some easy start more than I’d like knocks a bit, then it will struggle but go after 2500 rpm
Then if I keep it Reving above that it stays running revs to redline fine,
If I slowly let it down to idle it will stay running just
If I give it gas again it struggles back up to 2500 then flys to redline,
If I let it stop it won’t start again,,
Sorry to ask but any other ideas ?

Time to hook it to diagnostics and see the crank sensor and throttle position inputs
Jeesh guessing that might be expensive
Is there anything else you might think no bother if not,
It was fine till ran out of diesel,,
Really thanks for thevreplys,,
