The gauge on my TD5 over reads to such an extent that when the light comes on, you run out of diesel within about a mile. Now I can easily deal with that by not letting it run low but is this likely to need a new pump/sender unit to get it to read accurately? That looks like a £200 part but as I'm in the habit of doing things the hard way, is there a more simple fix I should know about?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi,
You can alter the way the guage reads by gently bending the arm on the sender unit which is attached to the pump unit. Put between 5 and 10 litres of diesel in tank and adjust arm so the light comes on when tank unit in place. Time consuming but cheaper than new unit.
