HI guys
New to the forum but I have an issue with my disco 2 front prop
I was on the motorway doing about 60mph and the double joint gave a Humm then let go.
It rattled around and came off as I coasted to a stop.
I managed to get off the motorway and got a new prop in the form of a non genuine copy I managed to get home but with the car vibration getting bad from 40 mph upwards on acceleration.
Now I've spent the day under it and noticed the double joint gets very hot and I have tried everything to stop the vibration.
Nothing really works so I borrowed a prop from a mate of mine which to be fair was well worn but the vibration has more or less gone a little was still there but no where near as bad.
So could the failing prop have done more damage than is obvious if so what is it likely to be and are these copy props known to be a problem.
It was marked up so it could not be out of phase and I fitted it as it came without separating the slider
Any advice, or guidance would be appreciated guys thanks in advance

If it's "brand new", then dig out the paperwork and get it back to the supplier. Depends of course, on your interpretation of "brand new".
When you purchase another prop shaft, look for one with greasing nipples on all three of the joints.

Brand new as in unused out of the box
This one did have the nipples on however the nipples were not in the normal place but on the caps of the joints it is currently in the wife's motor heading back to its place where it came from for a refund what I did notice was that it was flicking grease out from the cap seals as though it had been over greased
 
I had a brand new All Makes front prop that had to be returned 2 years ago after initial checking off the car demonstrated very tight & "notchy" rotation of the double cardon ujs. The supplier wouldn't accept that it was no good until it was tested on the car. It vibrated badly on the car & later the supplier accepted that it might be 1 of a "bad batch" (roll eyes) & refunded the cost. Since then I've heard of a few bad new props.
I now only re-build my own - as it's much cheaper & more reliable.
 
Not sure whether Disco has prop phasing requirement.
Vibration on my 110 was worse as I backed off at speed until I reset the phasing.
Have a search on here there must be something.

the d2 has the requirement but by using the double cardan joint it doesnt need it
 
OK update
The prop was an unbranded omw that was a problem however on fitting a Brit parts prop again new it became evident that there was another issue going on
Eventually narrowed it down to the TB and the front output shaft had been Bent enough to cause vibration.
Swapped out the box yesterday and all is good and to boot this has the nipple for the difflock to be enabled.
