Discovery 2 strange engine noise

Please help.
I currently drive a 2004 Disco TD5 but just recently got a Disco 1999 TD5 which had distroyed its engine due to diesel leaking from the head.
I have put in a reclaimed defender TD5 10P engine with 33000 miles from a reliable source.
When fitted the engine ran perfectly, very quiet and smooth, however, now when running after only two hours it sounds like an old ford cortina camshaft.
The replacement engine has been sat around for quite sometime awaiting clearance from insurance company.
The clatter rises with the engine revs, it definately is the engine and not ancillary items.
There is no loss of power and the engine still runs smooth.
There is no diesel in the sump.
The exhaust manifold is not leaking.
I have programmed in the different injector codes.
I have removed the auxillary belt and it is still there.
We have changed the dual mass flywheel and clutch, set up the injector clearances.
I have a Hawkeye, and all the cylinders seem balanced.

I would be very greatfull if anyone could suggest what my next move should be.

I had the same sounding clatter after changing my rotory filter. After a 10 mile drive bad rattle took me hours to detect the fault. There was a dodgy batch of filters made. Found that the filter had expanded and was hitting the inside of the housing the more you revved the louder it got. Just try removing filter first see if it clears

id say crankshaft pulley, using a long screwdriver or mechanics stephoscope listen to the pulley whilst engine is running being caarful not to loose fingers, lol

+2 crankshaft pulley. Rubber damper in crankshaft pulley delaminated and therefore became unbalanced. Well that was what was wrong with a replacement i recently put in. Changed all sorts before it was found!

checked pulley, rotary filter and oil bolt and they are ok.
head gasket chemically checked so now am changing the injectors with the ones from the old engine one at a time till something changes (i hope)

watch under the rocker cover, maybe there is something wrong...check out carefully the adjustments on the rocker shaft and the rockers themselves.
