Hi,

I have a friend at home with a low powered defender (2006 15p et ABS), 122.000km today (brand new ? :))

Power problem begin just after a full service after purchase, run well from Norway to france by highway but after the big service power problem start (all oil, all filter, injector seal + harness in prevention, check for no oil on ecu ... water pump, belt, exhaust and turbo seal etc ...).

During the first run out the garage we spot some white smoke and a small time with a bad noise : since this moment during the first 5/10km ... we have drive 100km without any smoke or noise problem but with a very low power engine

Looks like a "limp mode" but without any warning, light or dtc.

1) log for MAF sensor : dead with fixed value, impossible to reach 70/80 at maximum speed
if i disconnect the MAF : no ECU error on nanocom or engine light and no more or less power (if i disconnect AAT or MAP i have a error code)
-> with a new MAF (from my spare engine, original land rover MAF) : value log ok and we recover a little amount of power

2 ) with a new MAF sensor : a little better ... but very difficult to reach 90/100kmh now !
before the service, 120kmh without problem...

- Maximum 0,8/0,9 bar reading on the nanocom, never 1.0 or more (on my discovery 2 i have 1.2 and now 1.4 with remap)
- Injector balance around +20 -18, injector 2 more high than other (on my 15P disco i have very less variation) around +3 -5 sometimes +5 -5)
- When you release the Throttle Pedal, just before the normal 750rpm idle : we have a small negative surge before the 750rpm stabilisation (small but at each time, nothing like that on my td5)

zero ecu error with nanocom and delphi ds150 (only AC clutch error code with the ds150 tool but no AC on this defender)

- no EGR
- engine start perfectly and very fast : cold or warm
- double check for camshaft injector ajustement
- never stall and very linear during rev variation (like a standard limp mode but better than a MAF disconnect)
- no engine light on dashboard
- no smoke at any engine rev
- no leak under the def
- no leak from intercooler, airbox, inlet manifold, turbo hose ... tested with a smoke machine
- swap and clean MAP (on the inlet manifold), MAF (after airbox) and AAT (on the airbox) from another working TD5 15P
- no injector inversion during the seal change

Do you have any idea for us before injector swap ?
Do you know the normal value and specification for injector balance value on nanocom ?

Fuel filter changed and a quality new one fitted? Could also check fuel pump screens aren’t getting blocked. You can find a thin layer of black sludge on them sometimes
 
new fuel filter yes, full service including all point and the lack of power is perfectly linear (like a limp mode or maf disconnect).
no engine stall or rev variation, perfect start even after 10 days so no air in the line.
