Hi all,
I've just got rid of my high milage disco Td5 which gave me no problems, but I did change the oil & filters every 6000 miles as near as damn it.
I have now just got a defender TD5 with only 30,000 miles on the clock and I want to make it last as long as possible.
Does anyone know if running it on Castrol GTX Magnetex Diesel 10/40w will do it any harm.... has it got to be 5/30w as per the manual.
I ask because Costco in Derby is selling the said Castrol for £31.00 for 8 litres.
Also I was told that the cartridge filter only needs replacing every 4th oil change (24,000 miles) and the centrifudge filter every 2nd (12,000 miles) as long as the same oil is used. Think this comes from the haynes workshop manual. anyone confirm this.
Cheers
Carlos
if you are trying to make it last as long as possible then the 5w-30 oil is best, try these guys for recommendations
Opie Oils
Motul is my favourite of these
if you want really good oil quite cheap your only option is to buy it in larger pack sizes e.g 20ltr, for this try these guys as they only sell shell and mobil oils so quality is really high.
