Hi, I’ve just driven my TD5 (2001) home and as I was parking it up the engine cut out. Tried restarting and the engine turns over fine and almost catches but then dies again. There’s no issues with engine oil or fuel and I believe the battery is absolutely fine. Does anyone have any ideas what might be the issue? I’m thinking electrics but I’m no expert! It’s used regularly and has beenrunning absolutely fine so very out ofcharacter. Thanks in advance. Matt

Can you hear your fuel pump running when you turn the ignition on? Have you got enough fuel in (don't trust your gauge)? Have you got oil contamination in your harness? (red plug into your ecu)?

If its turning over ok with a good battery its usually fuel related if it won't start. Pull the delivery pipe off the fuel pressure regulator and see if you are getting fuel there. Crank shaft sensor fault/connector is another possibility

Hi Wireman. Plenty of fuel in the tank and fuel pump is running with the ignition. Going to check electrics this morning. Thinking issue with the ECU which sounds common. Thanks for the reply

You try a fuel pump purge in case there is an airlock in the system. Ignition on, six very quick pumps of the accelerator, then let the pump to through its cycle. Then try it again.

Have you checked for oil in ECU loom? These are the same symptoms I had last year, managed to fix it on friends drive with some brake cleaner in a Wurth scooshy bottle and using air from a diving tank!

Go disconnect the battery, pull the ECU box cover, pull the red loom connector, is it oily? If so, blow it out, use some alcohol electrical cleaner if you have some, blow it out again, dry it off and refit, then try it.

Sounds like it could be your crank sensor,if you’ve got a nanocom or a Hawkeye check the rpm when cranking if it’s shows zero or an erratic number it’s your cps
