it takes 5 mins to get rid of a thin layer of frost, so i guess its fubared, although a very thin strip up the middle of the screen works!!

Fubard then

Mine has cleared thick snow by the time i have scraped the sides.
Anyone for side heaters?

On the topic of heated screens. I was well chuffed to realise i had one fitted then come the snow it doesnt work. I checked the manual and realised that i dont have the heated front screen button but only the rear!!! Ive checked under the bonnet and it has the connection for it and they are connected. Am i missing something and or can I fit a button and hope the electrics are right there behind the panel.

cheers

Checked my fuses they are fine. Is the connector to the screen the purple and black wires with black plug you can see in the corner below the screen under the bonnet on the passenger side?? If so will be easy to test with multimeter, then i'll know if its the screen or electrics.

The windcsreen has 2 heated elements in it, left and right.
The switch and relay cost about £15 for the pair from your local dealer, take 5 mins to fit. Also check the fuses are there.
But you might need to enable it on your ECU, a nanocom job.
I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow as I've done the switch and relay, and the heated windscreen is being fitted friday afternoon.
Wish me luck.

Keep me posted. Good news about getting it from your local dealer as you probably share the same one as me i.e hunters kings lynn :)

Thanks

Rob

screen fitted ok, but looks like an ECU and nanocom job to enable.
Hunters of Lynn, the old boys on the parts dept are very helpful.

so if I were to fit a switch and relay (and check fuses as you say) and then IF my windscreen were to need replacing and I told the nice people it was a heated one then, job done. I mean in this cold weather it could easily develop a nasty crack :D
Of course it'd need enabling via ECU but I reckon I could find someone to do that
mmmm definitely worth considering, I miss the heated windscreen, had it in a few Fords and then a Mini

I agree about the parts guy at hunters, he saved me having to drop all my fuel tank and buying all four fuel pipes by giving me some pointers to needing just one and fitting it with tank insitu. Im going to check the fuses from the rave cd, then order the parts. I may end up getting a nanocom eventually as im starting to think its a bit of a must have tool.

If you had your location in the 'about' field, you might get offers from people with one nearby to help (like me), but I've no idea where you are :)

I am interested in this one as I have a heated front screen that doesnt work . Have checked the fuses , relay , and the connectors all okay, the button lights up , so what elase should I check

exactly the same as mine, i wonder if its the elements in the screen itself?

I suspect my problem (identical, volts at scuttle connectors) relates to however the wires from the connectors actually mate with the glass-elements, but as I cannot see where exactly the wires connect to the screen, I cannot check this interface.
