i blanked my egr valve off from the manifold and disconnected the blue vac pipe and plugged it so as not to lose vaccume but when the engine is cold it's really sluggish at low revs but seems to get better when warm, in fact its quite 'nippy' is there anything i can do to improve accelleration at low revs?

That is what diesels do, its natural. Bet when it is cold sounds like spanners in a bucket, but 10 min of warm up and to operating temp sounds nice and is nippy as you say
