can anyone on here have any idea why my td5 disco auto only gets roughly 18.5 mpg and it is not towing anything

Evening,

How hard do you drive it?

Have you had it on diagnostics to check the engine is running OK and there are no faults showing?

What MPG are you expecting?

Is it completely std?

Cheers

Like he says^^^^^^^^^^^.

Leadfoot disease is the most common. Or tuning issues, possible brake drag etc.

had new maf sensor . air and fuel filters , gearbox oil and filter change new brake calipers and pads recent mot passed emisions with flying colours

Standard tyres and suspension? And driving style?

I haven't had a Td5, but I can get that out of my v8 Auto, so I would think that is way under what you should get.

got it in january, it seems to hang a bit before going into top gear but at first i was putting it down to being first auto i had ever driven.

after oil and filter change it improved but still seems to hang a bit before going into top

Did it always do that mileage, or has it got worse?

If it doesn't change up all the way it will hit the fuel mileage on the open road.

What size tyres? ... if they are more than 10% bigger you can expect anything, anyway, after a longer drive check the handbrake drum carefully with your hand and if it's hot there's the problem cos it means it puts load on the powertrain, also ckeck the wheels all around to rule out erratic braking on one axle

tyres are 255/55 r18 general grabbers at2 have fitted new calipers just before mot brakes not grabbing handbrake off it will roll in neutral on the slightest slope

Couple of points. How are you measuring fuel consumption?
Slow take up to top gear is more likely to be lock up ,which is usually about 52/55mph.
Also from cold auto box is designed to hold onto 3rd to allow warm up quicker.
My Td5 auto does 23/24 locally and about 30 on a long run.
Also can you change your location to more specific location, then possibly someone near could help.
And welcome to Td5/auto ownership. I love mine, even if it costs me. Had to fit a new auto box 18 months ago.
Hope this helps

That's pretty worrying MPG. My manual gets about 30-32 if driven sensibly and I have 235/85/16 BFG A/T on it and a winch and bumper etc so I have a fair bit of extra weight on board too. On my last check I got 22ish but I've been caning it recently and it's way overdue a service.

I get 30 MPG with driving calmly, this goes down to 24 MPG when flooring it. I drive a manual Td5 on General Grabber At2.

No diesel leak any where? Injector seals? Are your injectors programmed?
The first thing I did when I bought my Td5 was buying a nanocom. The best thing I did.

engine running sweet not drawing air in fuel system, will injector programming have to be done by a landy agent

When I replaced the injectors due to one breaking (literally breaking) I had to program the injector in. It runs without no bother but I think it could affect the Fuel consumption, however I could be wrong. Others or Sierrferry will know better than me. It is very simple to do with a nanocom
