hi my td5 disco makes a droning noise at low revs p steering pump is fine the noise stops when i press the clutch any ideas thanks shaggy:confused:

Probably your clutch release bearing. This bearing is normally not under any pressure when not in use, which is why it can be noisey, but when you press the clutch pedal it applies pressure to the clutch release springs on your clutch pressure plate. The pressure will stop the noise from occuiring (in most cases.)

The solution is to replace the bearing - a pretty major job absolutely NOT worth doing until a worn out clutch is to be replaced.

Many many vehicles have this problem but they will run almost forever like this without any harm being done.

Mine only does it when it's cold.

Hope this helps,

Ron.

could be the spigot bush, apparently it can groan when worn, but as said above not worth changing until your clutch needs doing

finally got rid of this groaning noise a few days ago an ace pipe burst when her indoors was away with the caravan so all the fluid is gone and i assume the pressure is of the pump anyway drove it today and it is so quiet the noise totally gone its a pleasure to drive again hard to beleive the pump was so noisy so have ordered the ace to anti roll bar replacement kit fromm extereme 4x4 getting rid of noise and a price tag of over a grand to replace pipes makes this a good option

With no fluid your pump will seize up so don't go driving it without either a new fan belt that dies not go round the pump or a replacement pulley.
