Over the past few months I have changed the MAF and map sensors, fuel pump, fuel filter and put in an ecu with a big remap.

As of Wednesday night, I was comfortably doing 80-85 mph. It has been working flawlessly like this since December with no problems.

I took the Defender to a mechanic to have it inspected for a potential sale.

On the was there I was travelling comfortably in the 80mph range (acelerator depressed 3/4 of the way).

The mechanic drove it for about 10 minutes with me in the truck and he let the rpms get very high before switching gears. I explained that the way the remap was done, he should get it into a higher gear if he wanted to be above 40 mph. He was also missing gears.

Since he drove it, I cannot get the truck above 70mph, even if flooring it. The actual speed on a gps is 66mph.

I sprayed the turbo wastegate with wd40 and got it moving a bit better, but that did not fix it.

I tried driving with the maf both plugged in and unplugged, it makes no difference.

Is there some type of fault that could have been caused by his letting the rpms get so high? I am currently letting it sit with the battery unplugged. if there is some type of mode the truck goes into for its own protection I'm hoping that will reset it.

Is there something else I should look for? I'm hoping he did not do additional damage.

It drives the same through fifth gear at 65, then it starts to top out. The pump is brand new and genuine.

Thanks in advance.

So you want advice on how to break the speed limit:confused:

Buy a fast car, not a Land Rover Defender:rolleyes:

Triggered some sort of "limp mode" via exceeding pre-set rev limit?? again, agree above possible dodgy remap perhaps.

why would u want to drive that fast in summit that has the aerodynamics of a brick, the handling of a car ferry and the stopping distance of an aircraft carrier?

Understood, regarding speed, vehicle type, speed limits, don't speed and any other advice relating to my driving habits.

I have sold the defender and 75mph is the norm on the highways here.

If there was some type of limp mode what would be the best way to try to reset it? Unplug the ecu and battery and plug it back in?

i find it hilerious that you feel that a mechanic skipping gears and revving the vehicle highly has damaged it..

Not sure why you find it hilarious.

Like I said, it was working fine since December. I don't know what exactly is damaged or if he did in fact damage anything. I was describing what happened to try to get some help.

Thanks for the productive comment.

Tbh I find it kinda funny too……you're coming on here asking us on how to break the law again ?

:confused:theres obviously an issue if the trucks top speed isnt as it was before

As said earlier I'm thinking ****ty remap thats caused it, I know a lot on VW GTi's that mess with the vehicle, my mates one is a bit of a problem sometimes. If it goes on the brink it over fuels massively causing dramatic MPG drop but thats about it

Yes possible, the guy says its had a "big remap" just wondering what one of those is. My td5 90 gets some heavy revving off road and that's been remapped, it's Been good as gold
