Daydreaming today, waiting for parts to finish my Defender.

Can you get basic spec Defender Td5's without all the ABS and guff.

I really liked my Disco TD5 great 5 cylinder noise fairly economical and went ok. The problem was the very leaky sunroofs the 2 year suspension airbag life, and the ABS faults finally put an end to it.

If there are Defenders out there with none of this guff, maybe a future project.

Or are you all going to say, stick with the defender 300 tdi you have, it's the best one!

Would love a 2.8 motor but the bill would go a long way to a newer fender.

Not all TD5 Defenders had ABS. Mine doesn't . It does have air conditioning though, but most of them didn't. Just like the Discovery, they had an electronic engine management system with many sensors, actuators and wiring looms susceptible to oil ingress and intermittent faults in inaccessible places. If you're prepared to take that risk, they are rather nice motors. The Defender version was in a slightly softer state of tune than the Discovery, by about 10 bhp or so, and typically had a lower geared transfer box - 1.4 something rather than 1.2 something.

My Td5 110 doesn't have ABS, Aircon, central locking, leccy windows.

T'is just a basic workhorse.

my 110 td5 double cab has lecy windows but other than that its pretty well basic (well as basic as the td5 lecys will allow anyway);)

Righto.

Will see how the 300 goes for a year or so, and maybe keep an eye out after that.

Cheers

Got the option of a 130 TD5 crewcab.

Needs a rear cross member but nothing else obvious.

Maybe a bit soon, not even got my 90 finished yet. And would prefer a 110 really.
