I had my TD5 mapped by Dynachip last week which has massively improved everything across the board. Though I have also turned the boost up slightly and wanted to check I havnt gone too far!

According to my boost gauge (tapped at the actuator) it was boosting at 15psi from standard, I have currently turned it up to approx 18psi. Too high? Any negative effect on this?

Driven approx 50 miles on and off since and it hasnt gone into limp mode.

Secondly any downside to tapping from the actuator? Or should it be done from the inlet manifold?

Just to add -
Dynachip Map
Straight Through/DeCat
EGR Blank
Standard Intercooler - Planning on an Alisport during the summer
No Boost Box
New Genuine MAF
MAP is functioning as should
Standard Air Filter

too much boost can lead to high exhaust gas temps, should really be turned up when you fit the bigger intercooler as that helps lower the egt, you can fit a box to trick the ecu so it doesnt go into limp mode, same with maf signal

I read up on that today. Think ill turn boost down to about 16psi until I get the intercooler. That said apparently tapping at the actuator gives a higher readong than it actually is, so I may well be at the 15/16psi level. Though shall turn it down just incase!

Out of interest is it worth fitting an EGT gauge?

Would be with the above mods + boost box running at 18 - 20psi

Been reading mixed feelings. Cant hurt to have one, just need to find space.

My mates got one of those in his MX5 though im not going to need to adjust on the fly, just set it at 18psi and be done with it.

18psi is about the max you want to go on a TD5 with a standard exhaust manifold. If you dont have a boost box fitted to fool the ECU just turn it up a bit at a time until you go to limp mode at full throttle under load then back it off half a turn until stable. Thats the max your ECU will safely allow anyhow.

Thought as much. Currently set to 17psi read from the inlet on a boost gauge.

In regard to the manifold could I not use the standard one, de webbed with the Alisport bolt kit? Or is that wishful thinking

You can. But so long as you dont go mad the standard manifold is perfectly adequate. I've never broken one yet. Probably just jinxed it now though.

haha true! Nah, not looking for anything mad, I mean at the end of the day it is a 90 not an MX5...

Just the best I can get without sacrificing reliability.

Mines running at 20 psi on a standard manifold and has been for 4 years no probe although I do have a larger intercooler. It also has the module to stop it going it to limp mode.

True but every engine is different. For the sake of 2psi, £120 & higher egt temps potentially warping. Not worth it imo...
