My friend has a TD5 Defender 90 and need help with a problem. There is oil in the water, and no heat in the cab. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem is here? Thanks for any advice!

Head gasket, oil cooler or fuel cooler.

Is the oil black, mushy brown and sludgy or clear/golden in colour?

Oil has got a little bit of sludge in the cap and is a creamy brown, but there was only a very thin layer! Thanks to you all for getting back so quick it is appreciated.

Unfortunately that sounds like headgasket.

my bet is oil cooler, thats what it was on my td5 disco, if he can get a good used or new one, they are a doddle to diy fit, couple of hours max.

Just to let you know in case anyone else has this problem it was actually the water pump that caused this!
