Hi all,
Just finished putting a td5 dash into my tdi,
Havnt got a handbreak switch so just wired it to an earth,
The light still stays lit up on the dash,
What could I possibly have done wrong that Is making the light stay on even when put direct to an earth?

The warning light is looking for an earth to indicate the brake is on (which is what you have done). Disconnect the earth and it should go out
 
The hand brake switch makes the contact to earth when you apply the hand brake, that is why your light is staying on.
 
This is a job that I am looking at doing, got all the bits and busy sorting the interface out. My research says that parking brake is pin 14 of the 16 pin connector and requires an earth to illuminate caption. Is this the same pin you are talking about?
 
Yes It is pin 14. I've cut the wire so there's nothing connected to it and it's illuminated still lol. I don't want to try it on a live just yet as Im not sure what it'll do lol.
 
Looking at my notes on the 16 pin connector pins 6 and 10 need to be linked and also 9 and 13. 16 pin connector pin 1 to +, 6 to -, 20 pin connector pin 16 to +. Please double check my findings before doing any changes as you are further ahead than I am at this point in time.
 
No it didnt work before, but there's nothing connected on the wire out of pin 14 and its illuminated.

6&10 are joined,
9&13 are joined,
1 is the switched live,

I don't know what your on about with " 6 to -, 20 pin connector pin 16 to +" ?

Pin 6 to negative (earth) Pin 16 to positive (live)
 
6 on the main 20 pin plug is not connected as it's not needed,
And yes 16 on the main 20 pin is the switched live for the pannel.
Everything works as it should apart from the basterd hand break light is lit up with nothing connected to it! Lol,

Question, on your speedo loom, the temp gauge mod, he said the blue/ green from pin 8 on multi plug to pin 2 on the temp gauge plug, when it really goes to pin 1 on the temp gauge not pin 2, is yours the same as mine and goes to pin 1 or the way he said and goes to pin 2? Pin 2 & 3 on my td5 temp gauge plug are both black I'm guessing earths and pin 1 is the green/ blue sender wire?

Take the bulb out!
 
Don't know much about electrics but is it possible to re-wire the H/B part of the dash the way it would have been as a tdi if its different to a td5 :confused:
 
Yeh I was planning on doing it just waiting for a switch to arrive, but the fact it won't go out even when there's nothing earthing it out needs solving! Lol
