lads got a turbo whistle coming from drivers side sounds like behind dash ???? def turbo related any ideas ??? hoping its dry tomorrow so i can get under bonnet :confused:
 
what no one has any idea, ok i try and sort it tomorrow and post the findings. This bloody car every time i get a fault no one nows what it is lmao ;)
 
Definitely turbo related, as it goes up and down with engine speed? This may sound silly but the alternator can affect electronic items, especially parts of the stereo system. I've had it on mine and as it's a V8 it definitely wasn't the turbo ;-) Coincidentally my alternator recently failed so I assume the suppression was the first thing to go. I'm not saying that this is the same as yours, but it may be worth considering.

Its a def whistle not suppression sounds like a hose gone to be honest just its coming from behind dash far right of car turbo on left ??? Only found noise after my son turned radio of after an 80's cd wound him up "you call that music"
 
Mine was a whistle, not the ticking you would get from the ignition system, you could hear it with the stereo off but not when music was playing. I think it is caused by the alternator creating RF interference as it begins to fail.

yeah had this on my old vauxhall, it is def a whistle from split pipe or turbo prob. just strange it right sided not left.
 
make sure there's not a boost leak at the hose between the intercooler and the inlet manifold, especially if it's de-EGR'd
 
It is not at all unknown for the exhaust manifold gasket to breakdown and leak, giving a whistling/shrieking sound. It's usually caused by one of the exhaust manifold studs snapping and allowing the manifold to warp. The studs that break are often at the rear of the engine on cylinder no.5.

My thoughts too Landmark - but the climate control sniffer fan is more of an electrical whirr rather than a whistle...
