Oh joy...

TD5 was a bit slow to start this morning, but I put that down to the bloody cold weather. Drove about 7 miles and then it cut out and would not restart.

I carry a spare ECU, so swapped that at the side of the road, but no joy.

I swapped the original one back in and popped the nanocom on, but no error codes stored, and was able read live rpm when cranking.

Primed the fuel system a couple of times, but no joy there either. I can hear the fuel pump running too.

Any ideas gratefully received

Ran out of diesel. Fuel pump or filter choked, Battery low and not turning engine fast enough. Disconnect fuel line to fuel pressure regulator and see if you are getting diesel when cranking.

Thanks for the suggestions. I decided to get recovered to a Landy specialist and let them figure it out. They seemed pretty convinced that it is to do with the fuel system and the cold, maybe water/ice in the tank clogging things up...

I've also had a problem of cutting out and difficulty in restarting as a result of oil in the injector loom. Another similar problem turned out to be the fuel filter, or rather the rubber washer around the centre threaded hole. This had somehow got rucked up on tightening the filter, and wasn't making a good seal.

Letl us know the outcome, it's always good to get feedback. Hope it is something as simple as they suspect and not cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's all sorted now.

It seems the fuel filter had become clogged up, possibly with wax that had formed in the diesel due to the really cold temps. All sorted now.

While looking into this I learnt, and many of you will already know this, that there are two grades of diesel sold in the UK, summer and winter. Summer is rated to -4C before it starts geling, and winter is rated -15C. Maybe I had summer fuel in the tank...
