alright lads is there a cd changer i could swap for the original one thats in my td5 its on a 04 plate if that helps.

tried a few different things to get it working and it wont

was wanting something simple just to swap them straight over without any faffing about ?

or is it a big job ?

thanks

Easy job to swap. They are Alpine changers in the D2. But not sure if its a standard Alpine plug

A quick search on Ebay has THIS brand new one from Brit Car or THIS 2nd hand one as well as loads more

Personally I would just change the head unit for a more modern one with ipod, USB or SD card input and then fill an 8GB stick or memory card with a few thousand tunes. Something like THIS for half the price of a new changer

Now that's excellent advice. Also even easier to swap than the CD changer. Takes about 5 mins max. You can also buy a connector to ensure your steering wheel controls still work, if that's important to you.

Thankyou

i like to keep things standard so i want to keep the head unit , i was just wanting to take the alpine changer out then straight swap for a different more modern changer , would any type/make go straight in ?

also is there anybody around county durham/sunderland who can put me onto a decent car audio shop ?

cheers lads

No, if you want to keep the original head unit your only choice is to replace the changer for the same type.

There were links in my earlier reply

I'm not aware of a "modern" cd changer as MP3 technology has superseded it really. An 8GB card would hold up to 2000 songs so there is no real demand for a big box sat under a seat holding 10 cds max. As for changing a head unit, dead easy, but if you are not confident somewhere like Halfords does fitting on units bought from them and would take 15 mins max from paying for the unit to driving away with it fitted
You could get THIS Pioneer for £49.99 + £29.99 fitting

I thought you said you wanted to keep it original??

Going for a new head unit will improve your sound 1000% - especially if you put your CD's onto a memory card or MP3 player.

Changing the head unit will take you literally 3-4mins tops. It's dead easy. Slide the old one out, swap the cables over and slide the new one in, that's it.

i do mate but im not paying 100/200 quid for an original cd changer what doesnt seem to be very reliable ......

the changer under the seat doesnt work / read cds changing that was my first idea but not for that price ...

also ive just been to halfords to see if a double head unit would fit and he said for sure a dd definetly fits your car then the computer also said it fits along with an adaptor , the size difference between the original head unit and a new d.din cd/mp3 player doesnt match its nearly twice the size of the one thats in !!!!

he cannot possible be right can he ?

thanks

I had much the same problem with my Changer but wanted to keep the head unit, found a company on the internet who fitted an AUX socket to my unit, they will fit to the head unit or fit a lead that can be mounted on the dash, plug in any device and listen to your music thru the sound system in you motor, I plug the phone in and use the music player, it can also be used as a hands free.

I mounted mine on the centre console beside the Cigarette lighter

I wouldn't bother with the double din unless you want to do a lot of modification to the dash in order to get a large screen type head unit in there.

If its just for some tunes and radio the stick with single din, at least then you can stick the old head unit straight back in if you sell the disco.

If you don't have a handsfree kit installed already you can even get ones with bluetooth built in too

argh right , see it says it fits straight in but i couldnt see it tbh , im not one for changing the head unit i usually keep it original but with the autochanger fked i really dont fancy paying stupid money for an original changer .

Im not a big fan of the slimline things and i think it may look daft as they are alot smaller than the space that will be left ......

cheers

Yeah i thought there would have to be some sort of mod to get it in there but the guy said it will fit fine , nearly bought the bloody thing aswell .

Would a double even fit in the slot at all ?
