Well I suppose you know what is next, one of the threads is basically knackered. Enough to hold lid this time, but next hmmmmm.

What is the standard repair for these?

Thanks

Martin

or fix it properly , the problem often arises as the are captive bolts and top needs to be seated fully before bolts are nipped up

Same problem with mine but there are no captive nuts on the housing - just a thread in the (soft) aluminium casting! Always going to be a pain when over tightened. Now has a stainless steel bolt through each side - bit of a fiddle but allows a good seal to be made.

The original bolts aren't as long as the tread, so you can normally just use slightly longer bolt, as there is good tread at the bottom of the hole, I did this for a while until my water pump went so replaced the filter housing while it was off with a good used one I already had.

use longer nuts that go right through on both, but do this before you fit the other oil filter otherwise getting to the one nearer the engine is very difficult

This is what I've done, or rather had done; my mate has a lathe and knows how to use it: One custom longer, captive (machined a neck or waist into it) bolt. May yet commission another one for the other hole! :D

If I remember correctly they are m6 threads but there is enough material there to run an m8 tap through.
