Discs were fitted from late 93k onwards, the td5 axle casings are stronger, and the diffs are slightly stronger,(the pin in the middle of the sun gears is slightly thicker and the sun gears themselfs are beefier)

Mines a late 93 and its on discs with 24 spline. Well I assume its 24 spline, looks exact to the 300Tdi's.

Do the TD5 axles not have a P38 Diff in the back or something?

mines late 93k,theres a few things that have caught me out when buying spares,i just know about the casings and diffs as few of my mates use them for offroading,i think some of the 110 rear axles have the same diff as the p38's,but the fronts are the usual 2 pin open diffs as are the majority of the rears

had a feeling i might be a bit wrong but ive definitly heard of older defenders with drums.

But they aren't really defenders Cos that name didn't come out until the discovery was launched in 1990. and it coincided with the intro of the 200tdi engine. until then they were just called 90's or 110's :D

Its confusing isnt it, mines a 93 200Tdi on an L plate. If you look at the hubs, the rear ones look different to the front same as the 300Tdi's, but before the rear hubs look exact to the front hubs.

yeh i know what you mean,i was told (not sure if its right) that from late 93k they started useing 300tdi running gear, thats why they changed to 24 spline, they started useing the 45mm radias arms to(which caught me out when i bought my poly bush kit)theres quite a few little differences between an early k and a late k reg, your better of taking your vin no. when buying spares

Yep LR change overs are brill It was a case of what's left in the parts bins. Right chuck that lot on and when we run out we'll find summat else to fit.

D1's had Maestro van door handles and rear lights.

that sounds about right, really confuses the hell out of you when buying spares, when i first bought this defender i was convinced that someone had rebuilt it untill i looked into it further:doh:
