2003 Discovery 2 TD5 Auto Problem. Autobox surges under hard acceleration at higher revs - have replaced turbo waste gate module after "over boosting" but problem still appears. Also now more frequently you get a clunk when going into reverse and then the M&S lights flash - engine restart clears - any ideas?

Do you mean that when you accelerate hard, the revs increase more than the speed? And when you reduce the throttle the revs go down again?

If you do, that is normal behaviour for a TD5 auto, up to approx 52mph when it goes into Torque Converter (TC - not Top Cat:D) lock-up.

Does it feel like a manual gearbox car with a slipping clutch?

Give us a bit more of a description can you?

Oil and filter change done to see if that worked - unfortunately not.
Surging - No it's not slipping, what you get is like a pulsing/lurching in the drive although still moving - this is accelerating at about 55/60+ - not under normal driving.
Going into reverse is the biggest headache as it's like someone pushes hard into gear and is really heavy letting the clutch bite. It doesn't happen all the time, but is getting more frequent.
I have read somewhere about cleaning something under the box (not filter ) under a plate as this can get blocked and cause flow problems??? not sure exactly where before I start poking around.

Ok a couple more questions then please:

1. Did you measure the quantity of autobox oil that came out? If yes, how much?

2. When re-filling the autobox, did you put in a couple of ltrs, then cycle through all gear lever positions, then back to P AND WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING, top up with approx 2-2.5ltrs more oil until it started to dribble back out?

Anymore thoughts on this topic gents?

My old dear has also started with the occasional ' clunk going into reverse followed by the m & s lights flashing'.
There is a definate mechanical clunk when it happens. I find that if after starting, I move the gear selector all the way to 1st quickly and then back into reverse, the clunk + m & s lights can be mostly avoided.

Turn off the engine and restart has cleared the error so far.

Was at LR specialist today, changed battery as I have been questioning its health since my last trip over the mountains.
There were several faults logged by the autobox but nothing that points to a culprit?!?

Any other suggestions?
