Hi there ive got a 99 td5 auto not sure of the miles per tankful(as im in sweden and its kms) but ican get between 800 and 1000kms to a tankful average driving last sumer I was back in scotland visiting family and I filled it up in dundee on my way back here to simrishamn in south east sweden dundee to newcastle then ferry newcastle to gothenburg then gothenburg to home not sure of total distance but it was a steady 100-110 km/h and it used just over 1/2 tankfull which I was well chuffed with hope this is of some help to you

After several manual TD5's, Disco's and 90's, I think you would get about 27mpg. My manual Disco models did 31mpg driven normally, the auto takes another 15bhp out of the engine (and it IS noticeable, I've driven one) and consequently they are a bit thirstier. Maybe less in heavy traffic, but I live nearly as far as possible from the M25 (thank God..). And if anyone has one for sale, I'm currently looking.. Send PM..

Cheers for the help Guy's,

If anyone has any real actual MPG they could post that would be good.

I've got an auto late 99 model, and I drive between T wells and Gatwick everyday with mostly over country driving and a bit of M23 driving, and I get 32 MPG. I don't go mad, but I aint a slug or sunday driver. Probably if I booted it everywhere, it would go to about 25mpg. It runs ok on a mix of veg oil and diesel as well, not of course that I do or recommend anything that stops the Government getting any extra tax !!!!!!!

Hi I have got a disco td5 auto W reg with 86000miles on it .The mpg has being bugging me for months on short journeys it is only doing 17-18 mpg and on a long motorway journey it was doing 20-21.But when I put my 1800kg twin axle caravan on it made no difference to the mpg.So I set about getting it better because it was not good at all to be honest.First thing I changed was the pirelli road tyres to pirelli s/t and that helped. I have blanked off egr valve put a KN filter on new air flow meter, replaced the injector harness in the engine, removed the fan and put a kenlow on,and all that helped get about 2 mpg more. The last thing I have done was change the auto box oil and filter and that has made the autobox change gear better and it has added about 4-5 mpg to the mpg.The best way to get the mpg good is to make sure you get it over 50 mph because the auto box locks off to a 1 to 1 drive so there is no slip in the torque converter.

Hope you enjoyed the story. But now I am happy now it is doing about 28 mpg at last

Hi
I drive a 2001 td5 Auto, and have had it from new.
used to give between 20-22mpg,
Then Engine management system needed changing due to oil leak !
immediate improvement 29mpg.
Have recently had new engine fitted now getting 31 mpg.

I have just bought myself a 2002 Td5 Auto.

I drove it 600km at about 120km/h. Ended up getting 8.5km/l or 20mpg.

Not that good judging by the above replies!!! I'll have to look into it.
