went round to a mechanic i use to service the wifes car as i couldnt get the flippin thing out
he ground the head of an m8 bolt down so it fit in the ball, fitted a spacer over the bearing and used his air hammer driver to pull it out of the casing
I then ground the casing with a Dremmel and small grinding wheel till I could split it with a hammer and punch
