We're having trouble with a disco 2 auto we have M an S lights on the dash with cog around them, we have tried changing te switch on te side of the gearbox this hasn't solved it, we're just attempting to remove the loom from the top of the gearbox to look for damage. Anyone got any better ideas ?

several reasons if it 's a disco could of been the air con dripping on the xyz, inhibitor switch playing up maybe

No start at all no starter motor but the starter does work if you short it it's got to be something to do with the position sensor on the gearbox not telling the ecu it's in neutral or park, we've regained lights on the lever since changing the position sensor but still no luck

if you have lights at the stick try starting it in N, mine turned out to be that the xzy had been knackered by being dripped on by air con avn't changed it been like it for 2 yrs , just start it in N

Nope doesn't work in N cleaned and continuity tested the loom and that's fine, this is a right head scratcher

Sourced the problem down to the immobiliser, the new switch has solved the gearbox problem but the customer had the immobiliser removed and outmr diagnostic machine must have reinstated it.
