Hi

I am new to this forum but looking at it it seems full useful info so hope to be able to help others too.

I have a 2003 TD5 automatic. The gearbox temperature sensor light keeps flashing intermittently. It seems to be on hills and hot days - I am in Portugal so weather is quite hot but not excessively so. Maybe the switch is faulty so thought would change it. Does anyone know its location?

Many thanks

Hi,

The temp sensor is located on the bottom right hand side of the gearbox oil cooler. This is with the rad and intercooler. The book says that you should remove the intercooler to gain access, but I did mine by loosening the rads / coolers and getting to it through the O/S wheel arch (assuming RHD car). There is a small panel in the arch you will need to remove.
Note - have the new sensor or a finger ready when you take the old one out or you will lose a quantity of oil.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am in Spain and often come across this problem, consider changing the oil in the gearbox. Then drive for a couple of hunderd kms and then change it again.

The problem shows up on hot days/log hills, as you cannot drain the torque converter you will need to rely on changing the fluid a couple of times for it to be effective.

Dave
