I can't be of much help, I had my mechanic do it for me. But I very specifically told him about the oil pump thing I read in the FAQ section.

My td5 autobox from Ashcroft works perfectly fine from day one. I hope you sort it out fast, easy and free!

Thanks,

And sorry if I came across as having a go, I wasn't it is just getting extremely frustrating that something that should be so simple as long as you don't use brute force it's turning into such a farce. I'm honestly starting to think I could have done a manual swap in the time its taken me to get this thing back up and running. :(

My dream of owning a Disco II is rapidly becoming a nightmare!

Also I don't know how much it cost you to get yours fitted but I asked a local Land Rover "specialist" and they quoted me the best part of £2k which is why I went back to doing it myself o_O

My mechanic (who owns a td5 auto for 10 yrs) charged me 200€ for labour and 100€ for 10 litres of ATF. And before that he did few other tries to fix the autobox with no success (free of charge)

Note that I'm in Cyprus

So I’m pretty sure I’ve found the issue. When bolted to the flex plate the torque converter had been pulled forward disengaging the oil pump (turns out the flex plate that was still on the disco was bent, thankfully i had a good flat one!)

However now I have another problem, now that I’ve put the box (and only the box for now) back in to test that the fix has worked. The engine won’t turn over. The starter is connected and the dash is showing Park. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump and if I turn it all the way I can hear a relay clicking too. But the engine just won’t start! I’m wondering if it could be a knackered battery as the battery, M and S lights are on ( the M and S lights are flashing) but just in case it isn’t the battery does anyone have any idea what might cause it to not turn over?

Replaced the battery and it’s still not turning over :( this is most frustrating!

Surely it doesn’t need the entire driveline back together before I can test that the gearbox is working?
