Alternator got drowned with some luck it may start working again once dried out. I'd be tempted to take it off and put it in hotel room if you can. Even if you can't get it apart it may dry out enough to start working.

Text sent to Yellow90, Hairycornflake is also near but even though on the map I don't have a number??

Anyone got a contact for Hairy?

A bit late for advice but if your even contemplating any water in a TD5 you need to carry a spare Alternator. Exactly why I have one here.

i'm off to bed, if you find one and i have to go get it before i head down in the morning drop me a txt

No reply from Daft. It's a little late but hopefully he'll surface in the morning with a contact for Hairycornflake

Mines been dunked quiet a bit over the last 8 years ..........

I'm either very lucky or about to be unlucky

Maybe it's just northern water but I know a lot of people who have problems wading with TD5. If I go bonnet deep in anything remotely silty I'm gonna be changing soon after.

It's mine that's f*cked up.

Been in water about 2 foot deep, the alternator itself seems dry, however think there may be some muddy deposits in there preventing the brushed making contact.

The only tool we havnt got it a T50 socket to get the bottom bolt out, the rest has been removed so we know that none of them are seized.

If it hasn't dried out by tomorrow morning we will have to get recovered back to the midlands. We have swapped the battery over but within 30
Miles the dashboard has begun to light up as the power in the battery drops.

Any help will be appreciated

I'm missing a couple of contacts in the area and on Stenovas route down which will hopefully appear in the morning. Fingers crossed

Ratty suggests a blast with a steam cleaner at a carwash and a couple of whacks with a hammer might free up stuck brushes

Just checked e bay - nearest one for sale is 85 miles away from Aberystwith ...Bilston West Midlands - not much good.

Maybe a last ditch suggestion but if you are desperate and somebody wants to head towards us in the morning I could head up there and meet up. Would have to be early though, we have the stand here to sort and a long slog back up to gods county at the end of it.

Thanks everyone. We have limited access here. Will post in the morning when we find out if jet wash etc has done any good

Which reminds me, the text you sent makes absolutely no sense at all :p

LOL Managed to connect my laptop now.

Texts aren't a good way of communicating with me. I should wear glasses but I dont so I type all sorts of rubbish and even send them to the wrong people LOL

Anyway I am fairly sober and uploading pics now. Really hope we can get Scott sorted out tomorrow. His recovery wont take him all the way home but his mate has offered to come up with a trailer from Birmingham or somewhere. With luck it might have dried out and work tomorrow
