No air con system under the bonnet... Button on the dash but non of the gubbins under the hood of mystery...bought the machine in a bit of a rush.... took it to a menders for a re-gas but wasted his and my time. Is this a common thing or am I the victim of navery? Can the required ironmongery be purchased and fitted by someone clever?

Try not to take the **** too much. Ta.

It depends very much exactly how much of a system you have got.....

Conceivably, the compressor could have seized, and the 'quick fix' was to bin it, and fit a shorter belt to drive the remaining ancillaries. in this case, then it might be a case of fit new compressor, appropriate belt, gas up and go.

However it is equally conceivable that the vendor fitted a switch, and that is all you have of the system.

Was it advertised as having Air con? if so, i think the vendor would be my first port of call with a WTF type of conversation.

Thanks Mike,

Unfortunately I am living with the car on the other side of Europe from where I bought it so the vendor and I are not rubbing shoulders..... All the the stuff is missing, I guess I am wondering a. if they were ever delivered new without the air con and b. how easy is it to buy the bits and bolt it all back. Any thoughts appreciated.

Its possible to get nearly all of the bits you need on Ebay and it could cost just a couple of hundred quid.

Thanks for that. Thumbing through a Haynes to identify parts required.....

You could download a copy of the LR Microcat parts catalogue and then you'll know exactly what you'll need.

I think you may find that this is not a viable option financially to retro-fit the LR aircon system. Also you will need a diagnostic machine such as Hawkeye or Nanocom to talk to the cars elcetronic systems and tell it that it now has aircon.

Incidently, does yours have the Climate Control panel or just the normal heater panel with the round heat controls?

Thebig lad,

Just the normal heater panel. But there is an A/C button. I thought that all of these vehicles came with A?C as standard, is that not the case in your experience?

My air con doesn't work either but I knew that when I bought the car, ( Bargaining point, got the car much cheaper ) I believe the condensor has given up the ghost. TBH I am not really bothered about getting it fixed as I have 4 windows and 2 sunroofs lol Having said that knowing my luck we will have the hottest summer on record and I will end up having to get it fixed. Better start saving I guess!!

I currently have 2 D2's without aircon, my mate has one without and my previous ES had Climate Control so with aircon.

The question I'm not 100% sure of is: could you order a D2 from new with aircon, but without CC?

I'm wondering if the more likely scenario is that someone has replaced the heater panel (to cure a fault) and the replacement just happended to come with the snowflake button. This design of panel was used on TDi 300's with aircon - they never had CC like the D2's.

I wonder if you are perhaps confusing the air recirculation button for an air conditioning button?

.....slightly myopic owner peers closely at the control panel and makes out the image of three circulating arrows....... Whoops!

The panel has the above mentioned on the left hand side and then two more blanks. It looked to me on casual glance to be the same as my old 300TDi which was A/C. Thanks for the info on your non A/C vehicles. I wonder if it is a sensible move to try and fit system. I'm keen to pursue it as I live in the South of France and it gets bleedin' warm down here of a summer!

Anyone got any experience of fitting a new A/C system?

OK! - but it can be easy to make mistakes with a new car. I know i mixed up the ACE and power steering systems for a while as previous owner swopped filler caps...

ON retro fitting I would definately be interested in how to do this too - ambitions of African driving..
