A friend of mine, who is even more mechanically inept than I, has asked if I can give him a hand changing the front prop after he was quoted £925 by a garage!
Is there anything I need to be aware of with this repair, before I begin? I’ve done ujs on my OneTen before, can’t imagine it’s much different?
Thanks!

£925!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the feckin thing made out of melted down gold ingots??????
Altho I have only worked on Discos I'd say a pair of 9/16 spanners, a new prop and get on with it. Just make sure the orientation of the U/Js is the same in relation to the axle and tranny box as it was for the old one. And preferably new bolts and Nylock nuts or at least a bit of threadlocker.

I’ve got me special 9/16 slim socket for the job, the prop will come with ujs attached, so I’ll just double check with the original.
Forgot to say, they would have replaced the rear ujs too, bargain!

Crikey! My thoughts too, really that's just taking the ****

@bluedog333 , there's no difference to your OneTen, as per @Stanleysteamer...8x new nuts & bolts, make sure UJ's in correct orientation, use Loctite and a good smear of grease between flanges faces...wipe off extra, take for test drive...job done.

ps if you bottle it pass my details onto your friend confirming I'll save him £425 and do it for £500 :D:D:D it's just my generous nature :)

Cheers for that. Pretty much what I said to my mate, I was only going to reduce the price by £200 though, I was supplying tea and cake after all.

Just to make your mate sick.
I replaced the one on my TD5 this summer with a secondhand all-good one for €90 and thought the price was a rip off.
Mind if I'd had the cash it would have been €60.
And this was in Frogland where Discos etc are much rarer. ;););)

Any recommendations for brands? I’m going to tell him to get GKN ujs and maybe a Hardy Spicer prop. The prop’s about £80 (with ujs attached), compared to about £60 for Bearmach/Britpart.

If changing UJ buy GKN HD units with deeper 27mm https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/...for-standard-propshafts-gkn-single-gl1167k48/ TD5's have different UJ's front prop to rear prop - see text data.

Oddly, you appear to have impeccable timing as renewing mine next week [just ordered 4x HD's from Gwyn Lewis] and rear diff nose seal.

Oh, and don't forget to give all UJ's a fresh squeeze of grease

and the sliding joint. but on the Disco the double Cardan joint ain't got no nipples, and this is where the one on my old one was a tad loose.
i've kept it and one day will replace both sets of U/Js.
